Hi Cullen. Just wanted to let you know that you are amazing and I love what you are doing with Polaris. Will she join the O5? I would love to see her permanently with the X-men.
Lately, it seems more people are worried that Lorna will have her parentage taken away ever since the Disney sale went through. As though the twins are going to endanger her position as Magneto’s daughter. Why is this? I don’t understand why Pietro and Wanda being restored means Lorna has to lose. I’m sorry if this comes out sloppy, English is not my first language.
Disney owning the rights back has nothing to do with Lorna losing anything. Besides, now they can use Lorna more often in many things since it seems back then they were protecting her or keeping her away from the eyes of FOX (even though The Gifted is just one of many Marvel TV properties).
I don’t fear or think Disney/Marvel are going to take her parentage away from her. Her parents are dead and Magneto is the only family she has and she was introduced as Magneto’s daughter in her first appearance to begin with. EVERYBODY now knows Polaris is Magneto’s daughter and even The Gifted show hinted at the obvious. Marvel can’t just throw away Lorna’s origins and I don’t think Marvel has done that to any of the characters. The father and daughter Its too ingrained in their character
to deviate from their path. So I don’t see what people are worried about.
As for the twins, I don’t think Disney/Marvel is ever going to retcon the twins back to Magneto even though that’s what they were in the first place…a retcon. So Marvel retconned them once AGAIN.
I’m suggesting as Magneto saying “No” as to he’s not alone and that he still has one biological daughter which is Lorna Dane aka Polaris aka Mistress of Magnetism. Not only
were
the
twins retconned from their parentage but they also made the twins non-mutant.
Of course (in people’s minds), now that Marvel Studios can say the word mutant,
It would be easy to make them Magneto’s kids, but making them mutants again would be a bit tricky. Even with Disney now owning Fox there’s no reason to change this,
especially with Pietro and Wanda’s origins already established that
their parents were killed by a bombshell.
Magneto and the twins aren’t related in the movies and I
don’t think it would work trying to change it, especially with
Quicksilver already gone.
I don’t think Quicksilver would be in the new Scarlet Witch tv show. We already know that the X-Men are going to reboot after the Phoenix movie. Ever wonder why it’s taking too long to release the New Mutants or Phoenix’s film? Probably Disney holding things back and hopefully Disney won’t destroy it.
Anyway, after discovering Magneto was not their father, they went in the search of their true parentage and this is what they discovered.
They ended up being a creation and Marvel kept Magneto and Polaris out of their relationship. That wasn’t the only twist in this comic. It turns out that Wanda and Pietro have a sister named Luminous.
I don’t think I need to highlight the benefits of all this. But
Marvel’s intention was to give Lorna all the room for herself.
As for why their origins are being altered at all, the prevailing theory
is that Marvel wants to make the comics more like the movies.
Now that both the comic book and movie versions of the characters are no
longer mutants, it would seem that’s no longer a problem for them.
One thing I want you people to be clear after reading this is that I am not the company. I am not the one who destroyed Magneto’s family nor intend for this to happen. But many fans out there (including me) were outraged how Marvel separated the family and eventually people started realizing that the twins never made sense as Magneto’s kids. The twins never liked Magneto and always hated him while Polaris was always the contrary. I believe that’s why Marvel made it official for the magnetism family.
The twins might not be… canonical family. Alternately they are family but not like we wanted them to be. For example Marvel always had Magneto killing his “children”. He killed Pietro in the House of M
He also killed Scarlet Witch in Old Man Hawkeye
Not even in the alternate universe can they get along without killing each other.
There is not even one panel showing Magneto killing Polaris.
I don’t know what Marvel is implying but I do know with Polaris Marvel has a different view as Magneto’s daughter.
Marvel always has Magneto and Polaris interacting and understanding each other very well (not only physically but emotionally) and without killing each other.
Lorna has always sided with her father despite their beliefs.
Lorna stood by her father fighting their Last Day
Not too long into X-men Blue, she teamed up with her father and helped him to carry out his plans.
They even went out for dinner together like father and daughter would normally do. The twins never had this and don’t ask me, ask Marvel..
Together they linked each other’s power and destroyed Mojo’s broadcast.
Even in the alternate universe, she can be found by her father’s side helping him.
House of M 2005
House of M: Fantastic Four
House of M 2015 was where we discovered Lorna was his favorite child
And as always, she was by her dad’s side while the twins were against him.
They were shown together fighting and helping each other on many different occasions.
occasion 1
Occasion 2
Occasion 3
Occasion 4
Occasion 5
Occasion 6
and I wonder how many more occasion there are out there.
But most importantly, Magneto got to meet his daughter when she was a
toddle while he met the twins when they were already adults.
He knew who his daughter was all along but he didn’t know anything about the twins til later on only to find out they weren’t his. What I’m trying to say is Disney/Marvel always put these two bonding together as a father and daughter would be and that she’s obviously the only true heir. On the other hand, Marvel always put the twins at war with their “dad” and hating, killing, dismantling each other. Magneto never damaged Polaris like he damaged the twins. I’m all for Marvel restoring the family back together because even retconning them back, it will never take away Lorna’s right to her father’s (throne) legacy. Lorna is Magneto’s priority because in Wolverine and The X-Men (cartoon), Polaris was the one to carry on his legacy.
No, it’s not true and yes, I saw the DP’s trailer and???
Let me assure you anon that Marvel has nothing to do with the X-Men: Dark Phoenix movie nor Fox intention was to steal Lorna’s origin. In Lorna’s origin, she killed her parents accidentally and it happens that Jean did too. Lorna was in the airplane and Jean in the car. Both were little girls and manifested their powers sooner than any other mutants. I understand their similarities but we all know Lorna’s origin came first and is canon in the Marvel comics while Jean’s “origin” in the Dark Phoenix is non-canon.
The difference is that Lorna was younger than Jean when she first manifested her power. She was barely 3 years old. Anyway
in Lorna’s origin, her mother Suzanna, and her husband, Arnold, were into an argument when Arnold discovered the affair between Lorna’s mother and Magneto. He even did a DNA test and that’s how he knew Lorna was not his daughter.
So when
he later learned of this affair, he confronted his wife while he was
flying her and Lorna on his plane (yup! they were rich people). Upsetting the toddler Lorna whose desperation to make her parents stop fighting caused
an early manifestation of her immense magnetic abilities, which caused a
magnetic pulse that destroyed the plane and killed her parents…
…as well
as giving her hair its iconic green color.
:)
Lorna survived the crash and
was found by her true father, Magneto, who had been drawn to the
location by her magnetic pulse. This is how her parents died and she didn’t mean to. She was so little.
We all know (at least I know for a fact) that in Jean’s origin, in the Marvel comics (Uncanny X-Men #241 where her origin were told), her power manifested when she was 10, when her best friend, Annie was hit by a car. The emotion that Jean felt as she held her dying friend awakened her own latent telepathic
powers. This
traumatic event left Jean unstable and couldn’t control her newly awakened telepathic abilities.
At the age 11,
a psychiatrist recommended to her parents that they consult a colleague of his, Professor Charles Xavier, who was secretly a mutant with telepathic abilities of his own. And that’s where her parents sent her, to Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Lorna’s origin however is quite different.
Just because 20th Century Fox changed her origin after they established in The Last Stand that professor went to get her at her parents house in order to help her control her ability and that anon, is canon. X3: Jean Grey as a child. We’re know Fox’s timelines are all terribly a mess since X-1.
Again, that’s not Marvel’s doing or their proper film. It’s Fox and it doesn’t mean anything knowing the Fox cinematic has nothing to do with canon Marvel comics. The film of Dark Phoenix is just another timeline and is going to be rebooted, anyway. How is Fox stealing Lorna’s origin when early today it was stated by Marvel/Fox that
‘The Gifted’ Season 2 Will Explore Polaris’ Comics Accurate Origin
Here is one quote “The Gifted is going to explore Lorna Dane’s origin story in its
second season, and FOX’s series is drawing straight from Marvel’s X-Men
comics for Polaris’ backstory.”
You want more links? Here they are. Thanks to my friend who send me those linksbelow.
Vanity Fair: “In the final days before it’s absorbed by Disney and potentially folded into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the X-Men film franchise will take one more stand with Dark Phoenix”
CBR: “Disney previously signaled its intention to release every Fox film completed or in production
by the time the acquisition is finalized. However, the entertainment
conglomerate is expected to scale back production on pricier projects
and those that don’t fit into the company’s family- and
franchise-friendly formula.”
Forbes: “Dark Phoenix may be a kind of series finale to the 18.5-year old X-Men franchise
prior to the Disney deal which would bring those characters under the
umbrella of Kevin Feige’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
TheMarySue: “The trailer for Dark Phoenix came out this week. It is the last installment in the 20th Century Fox X-Men universe before Disney/Marvel eventually relaunches the franchise.
It’s hard to believe that the X-Men universe we know today
is as old as a senior in high school right now, but the 18-year-old
series has been mostly a failure with one of the biggest failures being
the 2006 film X-Men: The Last Stand. Looking at the trailer for this upcoming film, it seems like a lot of the same.”
“what they’re actually saying here is
that Fox want to really fuck the Xmen franchise over properly before
Marvel Studios gets it…”
Those are just a few. if you want more, search it yourself.
That said, in 2020 or so, the X-Men will finally be in the MCU timeline. Therefore, everything is going to be
entirely rebooted and starting from scratch. A new fresh era of the X-Men will begin from this point forward. I’m talking about where we can see the O5 as the core members and suddenly becoming a story for the Krakoa event. Here is where we get to see how the X-Men first gathered and became the X-Men we forever (knew) know today. Just saying since
Marvel usually wants to make the comics more like the movies. Perhaps the Krakoa story line can be a fresh start? If Marvel’s going to introduce the X-Franchise as a fresh start it will has to begin with the Krakoa event because it can be offered up in the memory of Len Wein who passed away not too long ago and Dave Cockrum who were the reason for the X-Men we know today.
Maybe we get to see Havok, Polaris, Banshee, Warpath, Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, Nightcrawler and Sunfire in this new era for the Krakoa event. Bold characters are the characters that FOX hasn’t used and will give Marvel a chance to explore them in the MCU before meeting Magneto. Yes, I know, Polaris is in The Gifted where FOX/Marvel are doing a really good job with her character but that’s a different timeline, taking place after the DOFP events. Speaking of Polaris, there are many things FOX failed to introduce that Marvel can now look into and introduce them in the MCU after X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which might be the last “X-Men” film before they join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel can now carry out properly the introduction of the O5 and furthermore, the introduction of Magneto and his daughter, Polaris who became the sixth member to join the X-Men.
As I mentioned, we have Krakoa, where Polaris took the big stand and saved the day. Not only that, but this is where all the interesting XM started.
FOX never took the X-Men into space and Marvel now can take the stand to do so. This will lead us to the Shi’ar Empire, where Eric The Red made Havok and Polaris as his crew members of the Shi’ar. Maybe even introducing the Starjammers? It’ll be a fun ride, trust me.
Another thing FOX was unsuccessful in achieving, one of the most iconic stories from Chris Claremont, was the INFERNO. The introduction of Mr Sinister. FOX had failed yat again in their attempt to secure this one. This is something I’m sure Marvel is planing to dig up. We might get to see Polaris leading the Marauders as Malice. Because in this story, Claremont has Polaris as the central character after Mr Sinister.
Then we have another epic team called The X-Factor, where Havok and Polaris took over as the team leaders. This is another great opportunity for Marvel to introduce Havok, Polaris (as leaders), Guido, Wolfsbane, and Mutiple Man. Though
last year there were a reports that James Franco would be producing and starring in his own superhero movie in Fox’s XM universe.
I don’t know how that’d play since Marvel is taking over but I do know Marvel wants FOX to release all their films they have in development before Marvel takes over. I agree, since there can’t be 2 Marvels.
The only think that I don’t know how will work in the MCU is the House of M. I don’t know how that’d work knowing the twins aren’t Magneto’s kids, let alone are no longer mutants. In my perspective, maybe Marvel can add a few random kids besides Polaris to be his kids for that timeline specifically. Or maybe have Scarlet Witch going crazy into wanting to bring her brother back and created the House of M so she can be with her brother. I don’t know. It’s just doesn’t make sense, but I would like to see a House of M movie.
All I know is that I can’t wait for Marvel to reboot everything and make a fresh start by using stories that FOX never got the chance to use. Inferno, X-Factor, Shi’ar, Starjammers, and Krakoa come to mind where Havok and Polaris are mostly in all of them.
PS: If you don’t like the idea of Havok and Polaris together well that’s your problem and your opinion.
Let us preface with this that yes, I’m aware that you have every right to your opinion. However, your opinion probably doesn’t matter, even when you think it does. Most of the time, my opinion doesn’t matter. And neither does yours. Opinions are great. We all have them. Your opinions have no basis in defining what you’re all about. They
aren’t the truth. They have no purpose other than to hurt or harm the characters you pretend to like.
There is no rhyme or reason beyond making the other characters feel superior
to them in some way or another.
It’s not about you, it’s about them.
Oh I truly can’t wait to see Marvel taking on these stories. X-factor and Inferno might be my #1 on the list. One thing for sure that I’d like to see on screen is the Acolytes. Very well said, though.
I agree wholeheartedly. I always wanted to see Marvel filming the INFERNO story. Something similar like @lorna-magnus stated a couple years ago. Here is her link (Malice)
describing how the film should be played with Polaris as Malice. I thought it was cool
and this was in a conversation of one of my replies to a troll. Don’t ask me just read
:)
I also can’t wait for the X-Factor and of course, the Krakoa. I’m glad Fox didn’t screen all those above:)
I’m so excited for Marvel taking over. I’m sure @marvelentertainment will use Lorna in many stories in the forthcoming years. They already saw how good Lorna is in The Gifted and many fans are in love with her. Last year (2018) it was an excellent year for Lorna with many promotions all around the Marvel industry and Fox. Including fans art. I’m going to do a 2019 very soon :)
How did @timetraveltravez-blog predict this? Who would’ve known that after this post a Krakoa event was going to be established in the comic?
Hopefully, we get to see this in the MCU.
Now we’re entering a new era of innovation that is likely far more interesting than Claremont’s era. An era where mutants are no longer going to be suppressed by humans and be accepted as a nation-state of Krakoa. Yup. They’re claiming their independence as their own nation of Krakoa. We know Krakoa is a living being and a mutant. Krakoa is the island that walks like a man who was first destroyed by Lorna Dane. Polaris. The Mistress of Magnetism. The Queen of Mutants :)
I can only assume trolls (like CBR) were thinking Lorna would not have any part in Hickman’s first book of HOX and POX (let alone his first X-Men run) but as always “they” were proved wrong and continue to be. Anyway, let’s begin to go forward in this new era.
Powers of X #1
I know what you’re thinking and yes, it was a jaw drop moment. Here we have Magneto (with his daughter’s color GREEN), Wolverine, Xorn, and Black Tom Cassidy. Right? Oh so we thought. I’ll explain in a bit of why I chose this panel.
Powers of X #2
They are trying to find some information that Nimrod is keeping from them.
I have to admit some of those characters are familiar and unfamiliar. Are they the characters we thought they were? We didn’t know until issue #3, which I’m about to discuss now.
Powers of X #3
Then there’s an explosion and boom… there’s the X-Men. This group of X-Men looking so badass are one mysterious group. So who are they? Who’s the female that looks like Colossus with metal skin? Is that really Nightcrawler with red skin? Was that really Wolverine and Black Tom? And Magneto? Why was he wearing his daughter’s color? Because this is the first time we’ve seen Magneto wearing green (and how cool does he look). Seems like he’s representing his daughter but I’d prefer to see Polaris wearing this costume because she’d slay so hard and speaking of her, I’m gonna say why I choose those panels with “Magneto” in it.
First let me be clear that we’re about to enter into a crazy spot where you might feel disoriented and can’t think clearly between timelines. For example. HOX is dealing with one kind of throughput thing while Powers of X is dealing with multiple times. The HOX’s timeline is year Ten and the one I’m discussing in POX is year One Hundred. Still with me? Lol.
So, who are those new characters from the first panel I posted? They were predictable as well as familiar to us. But they were actually Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen and here is the page that gave me one of the biggest jaw-drop moments that I’ve had in a long time reading comics.
The Green guy who looks like Magneto is not Magneto but North. North is a Chimera that was produced with DNA composed of two separate X-genes. He was a combination of Lorna and Emma. He’s the sec gen and to be more accurate, he was Pestilence as the Four Horsemen. Lorna was also Pestilence when she was part of the Four Horsemen. So North is the one that looks like Magneto which is of course, perfect because he is a mix of Polaris, the daughter of Magneto. That’s why he’s green. Famine wasn’t Black Tom but Krakoa/Cypher ? Only Wolverine (War) and Xorn (Death) remains Pureblood. Both had a singular DNA. What a complete mystery to finally get more answers than questions on this one.
We finally get to see some action from North but sadly the sentinel killed him so he wasn’t showing much.
And here you thought that’s the most out of Lorna we are gonna get in this story? Oh, so you thought!
House of X #5
YES. Look. At. Her. LOOK AT HER. Pepe Larraz does Polaris justice and she’s gorgeous. I also noticed the secondary color on her green. She looks perfect!
House of X #5 rolls right into the conversation that Polaris and Magneto are having here at the very beginning. They are the POV of the story. Polaris wonders and asks her dad if there are any good humans. Good question. I wonder that myself too. Magneto explains to his daughter how humans taught them about society. How they developed society and civilization and how humanity really grew. Basically what Erik’s saying is that now they have that chance to create their own society. Of course, there was Genosha, but that was just obliterated in previous story arcs. Now they have a much better chance in Krakoa. Very interesting.
Why do I have a feeling that eventually Polaris and Magneto will have a piece of Krakoa leading some mutants of their own? Perhaps X-Factor might come back (I’m going to discuss this on another page).
No, that’s not Rogue or Jean. They are Eva and Hope. Anyway, these mutants are the future. Together they are God like.
They are creation and salvation.
The beauty and the detail of Polaris is equally inspiring.
Each and every member of “The
Five” gain a new purpose as a huge pillar in the new mutant society. This is a game-changing issue for the characters and I mean all characters.
This issue is a mind blowing experience, at least to me.
No matter how close your theory was to the events unfolding in this
issue, there’s no way you could have imagined it being this
extraordinary.
This is something that should please everyone.
Polaris and Magneto’s discussion about mutant and human society is a
brilliant evolution of mutant philosophy that perfectly summarizes
their current place in the Prime Earth (616 universe). House Of X #5 is astounding. It’s breathtaking, shocking, and satisfying with such creativity that it’s inspirational. There’s nothing
that can compete with Hickman’s X-Men vision right now, it’s a
masterpiece.
This book is a thrilling achievement, not only story wise, but visually
as well. We finally get some answers and those answers are so
satisfying, it makes you excited for what is to come next in X-Men #1.
What Hickman has done so far with this title has been astounding.
And you still thought this was the end of Lorna Dane? Lol. Keep reading.
Marvel unveils Dawn of X line of X-Men comics at comic-con and yes, Lorna Dane is also in the presentation :)
Marvel rolls out six new comic book series and among them is X-Men, written by Jonathan Hickman (the writer of House of X and Powers of X).
You may wonder why I, as a Polaris fan,
am very enthusiastic and eager about the Summers X-Men book. Well during the years I’ve learned that the cover art isn’t even an issue. Covers are eye candy, not indicative of positive results as so many people get trapped into thinking. Eye candy refers to things that are attractive to look at but are not interesting in other ways. Anyway, are you getting me yet? YES, POLARIS IS GOING TO BE IN X-MEN #1 DESPITE NOT BEING ON THE COVER :)
Not only is she going to appear in the main (oversized first issue) book but Hickman also has some nice surprises for us.
So Boom. Polaris is part of the big action stuff. The fact that Hickman mentioned Lorna’s name before Storm seems to me that he genuinely likes Polaris.
I’m gonna give you a page from X-Men #1 where Lorna’s sitting at the center before Magneto, Jean, Havok etc.
How exciting to know Lorna is not going to be in “limbo” even though she never has been and you can click here and here where it shows no “2 year gap”.
Nevertheless, I’m so excited and intrigued to see what Hickman has in store for us.
